Total Consciousness
So I jump ship in Hong Kong, and I make my way over to Tibet, and I get on as a looper at a course over there in the Himalayas. (a looper?) A looper, you know, a caddy, a looper,..a jock. So I tell 'em I'm a pro jock and who do you think they give me? The Dalai Lama himself. The Twelfth son of the Lama; the flowing robes, the grace, bald... striking. So i'm on the first tee with him, I give him the driver; he hauls off and whacks one - big hitter, the Lama - long...into a ten thousand foot crevasse right at the base of this glacier. Do you know what the Lama says: (pause) 'Gunga Galunga... gunga, gunga-lagunga.' So we finish the 18th and he's gonna stiff me. And I say, 'Hey, Lama, hey. How about a little something, you know, for the effort, you know?' And he says, 'Oh, uh, there won't be any money. But when you die, on your deathbed, you will receive total consciousness.' So i've got THAT going for me. Which is nice.
Total consciousness, how cool is that? But what is total consciousness and do we really desire to have it? I think a lot of people have had glimpses of it and spend the rest of their lives trrying to get as far away from it as they can. The saying that the truth hurts isn't always the case but for some it definitely does.
Could total consciousness be a glimpse of who we are or who we have become? It has always been a lot easier to look at the faults of others and critisize or advise them on how to become a better person than it is to make improvements in our own lives.
Accountability by others is important, but we should not ever forget that Jesus is the ultimate accountability partner. What Would Jesus Do? I love those words because in EVERY situation you can rely on Christ to guide your actions. HE was the perfect example, none before him and none after. Man, what a role model!
I think I received total consciousness when I allowed Christ to come into my life. Who wants to wait until you're on your death bed?
